Designer Spotlight: The Curated Design Stylings of Jenna Boller

This month, we sat down with Jenna Boller of J.P.B. Design for a delightful conversation about how she curates welcoming  spaces for everyday living. Get ready to be inspired as Jenna shares her love for blending Old World-style with the most fashionable looks of today.

We love your use of vintage furniture in your designs. What is your favorite way of transforming them into statement pieces? 

I am a big believer in mixing old with new. Meaningful pieces of furniture shouldn’t have to be replaced. Reupholstering a chair can transform the piece, giving it a fresh, new look. Refinishing your grandmother’s credenza and updating the hardware is the perfect conversation piece in your dining room. 

Your love of artwork brings personality and a fun vibe to your living spaces. How do you choose the perfect piece that ties the room together? 

Art and décoris personal. In our initial meeting, the client provides a list of interests and items of importance. I have developed a network of trusted artists that create the perfect reflection of the clients’ preferences. Art tells a story, while bringing color and texture into a space. 

Creating a welcoming experience shines through in your designs. What elements do you choose for creating such peaceful spaces?

I believe in blending styles, mixing materials, and layering textures to create curated, warm, and inviting spaces. I blend my client’s needs with my own unique vision, while choosing both tasteful and cost-effective décor and furnishings.  

We love how your spaces are designed around comfort and everyday living. What are some of your favorite fabrics and textures that make this happen?

I believe layering different types of textures—wool, velvet, boucle, patterns, and colors—creates a welcoming and refreshing look. When selecting a couch, comfort is most important, of course, so think velvet paired with a wool area rug and textured pillows.    

Choosing the right flooring or carpeting for a space can be tricky. Your selections lend a perfect balance to your designs. What is the best advice you can offer when choosing flooring, carpeting or area rugs?

Hardwood is timeless and an excellent foundation. When creating a cozy, serene bedroom, plush wall-to-wall carpet is a must. When selecting an area rug, size does matter! Be sure that it is the perfect fit for the space. 

What are your top three design tips for someone who’s thinking about a home refresh?

A: 

1. Paint makes a huge impact. Changing the colors of the walls will completely transform the space. Choose something neutral and light for staying power, and don’t forget a fresh coat of white semi-gloss on those moldings.  
2. Accessories and décor are another simple and cost-effective way to update your home. I love to incorporate personal experiences. When on vacation, look for a coffee table book or an accessory that can be displayed. Throw pillows and blankets bring a refresh to your family room’s couch.
3. Changing hardware can be a great way to update your kitchen, bathroom, or dresser—oftentimes changing a space without a huge expense.
