Designer Spotlight: The Soothing Design Vibes of Revival Interiors

This month, we sat down with Maureen Maher of Revival Interiors for a great conversation about her design style and her favorite ways for creating a calm and soothing vibe.

We love how your designs are the perfect balance of traditional style and modern flair. What is it that draws you to these particular styles the most?

My passion is to create designs that are timeless. I believe simplicity is key. By combining these two elements, my clients feel right at home – both now and in the future. 

Your designs exude a relaxing and calming vibe. What elements do you choose for creating such a peaceful space?

Creating a relaxing vibe is all about choosing soft fabric, comfortable furniture, and a neutral palette. Adding pops of color is the secret ingredient to pulling the room together with a touch of pizazz. 

Every room in a client’s house must be fun to design, but do you have a favorite?

I love designing great rooms! They truly are the “heart of the home” (sorry, kitchens!). A fabulous great room should be warm and inviting with a vibe that says: “Stay a while.” And one of the “greatest” things about great rooms is that you can make them even greater by adding touches of your unique personality to show off your personal style. Whether it be using fun artwork, a cool area rug, or unique window treatments, it’s the ultimate space for spending time with family and friends. 

Your use of patterns and textures is gorgeous. What is your favorite way of incorporating them into a room?

My favorite ways to use patterns and textures are twofold. For larger pieces of furniture, I like to use tone-on-tone textures, whereas for smaller pieces of furniture, patterns are my “go-to” for creating interest and dimension. Using throw pillows is one of my favorite ways to do this. 

You use window treatments as a focal point and to make a room even more interesting. What goes into deciding which window treatment is best for a room?

Window treatments are an important design element for any room. When deciding on which ones to use, the first thing to keep in mind is how much sunlight the room receives. Then, you can choose the specific type of window covering and combine it with the perfect fabric to create a beautiful space. 

Saving your clients money is part of your philosophy. What are some unique ways you make this happen?

I love repurposing. It’s one of the easiest and affordable ways to make a tired space new again. Think about your area rugs and drapery panels, for example. By simply moving them into a new room, you can add a new perspective to the space by using something you already know you love – and have paid for! And when it comes to furniture – think reupholstering. As long as the bones of the furniture are still strong and sound, choosing a new fabric can give your favorite furniture the ultimate makeover – and save you money at the same time. 

What are your top three design tips for someone who’s thinking about a home refresh?

I tell my clients these three things when they’re looking to refresh their homes: First, keep it simple by using neutral tones with pops of color. Secondly, choose furniture that is simple in design. And lastly – here’s where the timeless part comes in – stay away from fads and trends. A refresh should be just that: A fresh start. By using clean lines and neutral tones, you can build on that palette to create a beautiful space that is new, fresh, and inviting.
