Q: Your portfolio of interior designs is gorgeous! How did you get started in the interior design industry?

A: I grew up surrounded by bolts of fabric with my father and grandparents in the fabric business throughout my childhood. After leaving the fashion industry and starting a family of my own, interior design felt like the most natural progression for me. I feel so at home and comforted when I’m in a fabric store because it reminds me of some of the people I love the most in the world and, in a way, makes me feel closer to them.

Q: What do you love most about being an interior designer?

A: The thing I love most is helping my clients’ dreams and visions for their homes come true. There is nothing better than seeing my clients’ faces when a room or house comes together and they are so excited to live in the space. And the excitement of seeing your shared vision come to life—when an installation comes out exactly as you hoped it would—is truly the best part of being a designer. I also love challenging my clients to go a little bit outside of their comfort zones and expand their horizons. It makes for the most interesting and curated spaces!

Q: What would you say is your interior design style?

A: My personal style is “Modern Farmhouse,” but with clients, I design to fit their personalities—so it could be anything from traditional to contemporary. I often mix elements of different styles together to create a unique style that my clients love. When it comes to working one-on-one with my clients, I encourage only open and honest communication, because I want them to be thrilled with the final result. They have to live there, after all!

Q: Do you have a signature touch that you use in every project?

A: My signature touch is more related to my design philosophy than a particular design element. In every project, I like to learn as much as I can about my clients and their styles so that we can design the space together and make sure each room is exactly how they envision it. I love to design to each family’s personality rather than a standard, “one size fits all” design. My clients are what make my work special!

Q: What are some key décor elements that really tie together a room?

A:  The fabrics and the accessories—and of course, the carpeting! I love to design a room around something my client is particularly tied to, whether it be a color, a hobby, or just a particular feeling they want to evoke in the room. In a recent project, I had pillows made from their late grandmother’s fur coats, which reminds them of her every time they sit on their couch and makes them smile.

Q: Bold colors, animal prints and traditional designs seem to be very popular this year. Is there a particular trend that you’re excited about?

A:  The trend I’m most excited about is textures—from hides to Sherpa to shag. I love mixing textures throughout a room. Even if you stick to a neutral color scheme, textures help bring excitement into the space and make it feel luxurious.

Q: What advice would you give to anyone who’s tackling a room redesign or home renovation this summer?

A: I would ask them a couple of key questions: “What does your dream space look like, and what will make you most excited to live in it?” After answering those questions, I would suggest they pick their favorite colors and pinpoint some specific elements they love—and then take a step outside of the box to make it truly unique.
